GCEA Membership Levels

Full Membership

Full members are graduate-level programs that are currently accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC). Program leadership can determine how many individuals to add from their institution (e.g. from individuals who have full time equivalent (FTE) towards program leadership). Representatives of full member programs may attend meetings and be involved in committee work, including serving as chair. Each full program member designates one representative for voting purposes during any business meeting of the organization requiring a vote—the voting representative will default to the Program Director unless otherwise specified.

Individual Colleague Membership

An individual colleague membership is available to people involved in genetic counselor education who may or may not be affiliated with a full or associate program member institution and people who are in the process of developing a new graduate-level program in genetic counseling. Individual colleague members may attend organizational activities and participate in committee work. They cannot serve as committee chairs or serve on the Board of Directors. They may attend the organization's business meetings, but are not voting members.

GCEA's membership committee reviews applications for individual colleague membership monthly, and a member of the committee may contact you if additional information is needed. Decisions regarding individual colleague membership are made by the Board of Directors and will come via email.

Please note, GCEA's fiscal/membership year runs July – June, therefore, there are two individual colleague membership cycles. Once your application has been approved, if you join between July 1-December 31, registration is $100; if you join between January 1-June 30, registration is prorated to $50.

Emeritus Membership

Emeritus members may attend organization activities, participate in committee work, and chair an organizational committee. Emeritus members are not voting members and cannot serve on the Board of Directors. However, they may attend the organization's business meetings.
